Veelgestelde vragen

Quick answers.

What is the ideal line height for body text?

For most web fonts, a ratio between 1.4 and 1.6 is considered optimal for readability. This provides enough breathing room for the eyes to track from the end of one line to the start of the next.

How does font size affect the ratio?

Larger text, such as headings, typically requires a tighter relative line height (around 1.1 to 1.2) because the sheer scale of the glyphs creates its own visual spacing. Smaller text benefit from a looser ratio to prevent lines from crowding.

What units should I use in my CSS?

Using unitless values like `line-height: 1.5` is recommended in CSS as it allows the height to scale proportionally if the font size changes. Our calculator provides these unitless equivalents as decimal values.

Are the calculations stored anywhere?

No. All calculations are performed instantly by your browser's execution engine and are not logged or transmitted to our servers.
